Your New Life with Christ: Embracing the Transformation

Dear New Child of God, Hello,

You have arrived here wanting to know more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the commitment you have just made or would like to make.

Perhaps you made a silent commitment in your heart, or you said a quiet prayer. If you would like to bring that together in a short prayer of acknowledgement you might consider saying this short prayer. Just say it quietly to your heavenly Father:

Dear Father God,

I have just learned what You have done for me by sending Your Son Jesus to die for me on the cross, to pay the price for all that I have done that I shouldn’t have done – what The Bible calls my sins, iniquities, and transgressions – so that I can be saved and redeemed to eternal life with You.

Father, I acknowledge there is much I have done that I should not have done, and I ask Your forgiveness. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, and that He was crucified and died to pay the price for my sins, and He rose triumphantly from the dead, so that if I believed in Him, I too would have eternal life.

I do believe, Lord. Please forgive me all that I have done. I want Jesus to be Lord of my life in the fullest sense possible from this day on.

I ask this of You in the name of Jesus. Amen.

It’s done! If you meant it, that’s all it takes. Isn’t that wonderful?

Now, welcome to the new chapter of the rest of your life! You’ve taken the most thrilling, life-changing step you will ever and can ever take by embracing Christ and the Christian faith. Let’s explore what this transformative journey means for you.

Firstly though, you should understand what is so special about Christianity and how it differs from all other religions.

  • Christianity is not a religion with rules and regulations, though man tries to impose plenty!
  • Christianity is not a club to join and later leave. You have just been given “Eternal Life Membership” and you will never be asked to leave.
  • Christianity is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, your Saviour. He knows everything about you, and He invites you now to get to know Him. But more about that later.
  • The salvation you have just experienced is rooted in the finished work of Jesus alone; it is not dependent on your performance as a Christian. You are now secure eternally. However, you’ll find that your behaviour will change because the Lord Jesus will be working in your life from hereon in.
  • Christianity is simply putting your faith and trust in Jesus alone.

What Has Happened to You?

By saying the short prayer above you’ve embarked on a path of personal and spiritual growth and understanding that will continue into eternity. By believing in Jesus, the Son of God, and His finished work on Earth, you have become a Christian – a child of God. Now the journey begins.

Just as a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly, you too are undergoing a beautiful transformation, even now. The Bible tells us that you’re now a new creation and all old things have passed away (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Through your newfound faith, you are connected to the Source of all wisdom, hope, and love to guide your life from now on. This is not some huge computer or database, nor is it some obscure power of the universe, but it is a real living Person – the Lord Jesus Christ.

A Journey of Forgiveness and Grace

You’ve also entered a journey of forgiveness and grace. Embracing forgiveness and a willingness to learn to forgive others enables you to move forward with a light heart and a sense of freedom, unburdened by regrets or shame.

The Bible tells us our sins have been removed as far as the East is from the West and they are remembered no more. That is how kind and gracious our God is.

Nurturing Your Faith

As you start this journey, nurturing your faith becomes essential. Just like a plant needs water and sunlight, your faith requires regular nourishment. Engage in prayer, reflection, and reading the Bible to deepen your connection with God and gain insights into life’s mysteries. Don’t worry about this, but see the helpful links below

You will want to find a church. There are millions of them but try to find one near you that believes and teaches the Bible. In the meantime, you could always join an online church but that must only be a temporary measure because real life contact and fellowship with other Christians is essential and wonderful. You are now part of a huge family.

Churches are filled with people just like you and they will love to have you join them. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ, and all on a journey towards eternity. It is the people who are the church, NOT the building.

What to Do Next

One of the first things to do is to buy a Bible you can read easily. That means the print should be large enough and the language style easy to read. At this stage in your journey, I would suggest the New Living Translation (NLT).

Using modern English, the translators of the NLT focused on producing clarity in the meaning of the text rather than creating a literal, word-for-word equivalence. Their goal was to create a clear, readable translation while remaining faithful to original texts.

You can read about the New Living Translation here.

But, of course, you can use any Bible you want. There are no rules.
